Alumni Band Day (ABD)
Pitt vs. New Hampshire at Heinz Field
Saturday, September 25, 2021
Kick-off is 12:00 noon EDT.

Pre-registration is closed. You can register at the PBAC tailgate on September 25.

Details for the day:

Please note, attendees will be required to follow all Covid-19 safety guidelines communicated by the Pitt Band, the Pitt Band Alumni Council, the Pitt Alumni Association, the University of Pittsburgh, and Heinz Field to ensure a safe event for all attendees. More information on these guidelines will be communicated with registrants. All events and guidelines are subject to change based on the University's posture in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. We will keep you updated on the status of this event.

In particular, all registrants are required to monitor for symptoms of Covid-19 in advance of this event. Anyone who, within 10 days prior to the event, has experienced any symptoms of Covid-19, has tested positive for Covid-19, or who has come into close contact with an individual who is symptomatic or positive is not to participate in Alumni Band Day activities. Please contact PBAC at if you will not be attending due to Covid-19.

Due to Covid-19 safety protocols, only vaccinated seniors from the 2020 marching season (Class of 2021) will be able to join the band at halftime. This is their chance to march off the field as a group, an experience they missed during the 2020 season. We appreciate your understanding and hope you'll join us for all other activities. If you graduated this past year and would like to participate at halftime, you should register both with PBAC for Alumni Band Day (here) and separately with Dr Townsend for the halftime performance and Friday rehearsal. Email any questions to

Cost & Registration
Alumni Band Day activities are included in your annual Pitt Band Alumni Council dues. This includes the game admission and tailgate. There will be a registration and check-in table at the tailgate before the game. Please remember to come by upon your arrival, where you can also pay the $35.00 annual dues if not prepaid, as well as purchase a Pitt Band Alumni polo in the Pitt Royal and Pitt Gold colors (first used in 2019) for $10.00 (if needed/desired) and other merchandise. Dues and a complimentary polo will be provided to first-year graduates who register, free of charge.

The expected attire for the day is a current Band Alumni polo in the Pitt Royal and Pitt Gold colors (first used in 2019), black pants without holes or tears, and dark-colored shoes. Optionally, ballcaps in the current colors will also be available for purchase at the registration table for an additional $10.00, but participants are also permitted to wear their own Script Pitt hat in the current colors. While you are encouraged to wear underneath your "uniform" whatever other gear is comfortable and gets you into the Game Day spirit, note that apparel in the old 1997–2018 Navy Blue and Vegas Gold colors is NOT permitted to be visible during the parade or performances.

We will have limited percussion and low brass instruments available to borrow on the day of the game. All other instruments should be brought with you. For anyone planning to borrow a low brass instrument or percussion, PLEASE let us know in advance if you need one as our supplies are limited and we need to know how many to load onto our truck. Note however that we are very short on mouthpieces for these instruments so please bring your own if at all possible. All other instruments, though, should plan to bring their own.

Pregame Concert, 10:00am
Location: Steps outside of Gate A
The pregame concert with the varsity band will occur outside of Gate A. We will play the music for the day (Pitt fight songs and stand tunes) with the varsity band. You can download the music if you want to preview or print it (password is hailtopitt). Information on using your smartphone as a flip folder will be provided at registration; limited paper copies of music will also be available. This performance is optional.

Parade Into Stadium, 11:00am
Location: Corner of Tony Dorsett Dr and General Robinson St
In order to get into the game, you MUST either:

  1. Participate in the parade and march into the stadium with the band and alumni
  2. Meet the end of parade at the northeast entrance of the stadium where the band marches into Heinz Field (Gate 5), wearing your black pants and the current Pitt Band Alumni polo that will be available to pick up at registration, or your respective Golden Girl attire
  3. Have your own ticket and meet the alumni inside

Vaccinated members of the Class of 2021 only will be welcome to join the varsity band for the Pitt Fight song portion of the halftime show. The music will be Victory, Hail to Pitt, and the Alma Mater, as well as either Snakes on a Plane or The Kids Aren't Alright. You can download the music if you want to preview or print it (password is hailtopitt). Other members of our Pitt Band Alumni family are encouraged to cheer on the Class of 2021 at this time.

During the third quarter, someone from PBAC will be manning the truck so that you can get cases, etc if you need to leave early. Note that there is no re-entry to Heinz Field once you exit the stadium. We also plan to have a postgame tailgate for anyone that is interested.

Have a question? Someone else probably has the same one too — please email so we can get you an answer and add it to this page.

Pre-registration is closed. You can register at the PBAC tailgate on September 25.
