Basics Attire Schedule Policies

Registration

Registration will be open through Sunday, September 13. Participation is not guaranteed for those who do not pre-register. All instrument requests are due with registration.

Registration will open soon.

Basics

Cost and registration

Alumni Band Day activities are included in your annual Pitt Band Alumni Council dues of $50.00 which are payable upon online registration. This includes:

  1. PBAC tailgate access (8:00–10:00am),
  2. entry into the game (11:00am; see Parade details in Schedule), and
  3. a seat with the Alumni Band (12:00 noon kickoff).

First-year graduates (last 12 months) are eligible for a discounted dues rate of $25.00 which includes the required cotton “Pitt Band Alumni” polo. Additional polos can be ordered for $20.00 with registration; see Attire.

Registration will be open through Sunday, September 13. Participation is not guaranteed for those who do not pre-register.

Instruments and storage

Bring your instrument. Cases can be dropped off for storage on the PBAC truck following the Pregame Concert until 10:40am, and can be picked up beginning in the third quarter through 30 minutes postgame.

We will also have limited instruments available to borrow on the day of the game. For anyone planning to borrow an instrument, you must let us know on your registration form by Sunday, September 13. We may not be able to honor requests received after this date as our supplies are limited and we need to know how many to load onto our truck. Borrowed instruments can be picked up from the PBAC truck during the tailgate and returned beginning in the third quarter through 30 minutes postgame.

Each participant is individually responsible for their own instrument. This includes bringing it into the stadium during the “March to Victory” Parade and bringing it back out of the stadium at the conclusion of the event. Participants who have borrowed an instrument remain responsible for it until the time they have personally returned it to the PBAC truck.

Regardless, please note that we are very short on mouthpieces and reeds, so please bring your own if at all possible.

Music

In addition to standard school songs, halftime music is TBD. Check our music download area if you want to preview or print any of the music in advance (password is hailtopitt).

Login information for using your smartphone as a flip folder will be provided to participants at check-in; limited paper copies of music will also be available. If you wish to use your smartphone, we recommend downloading the smartphone app in advance from the App Store (for iOS) or Google Play (for Android).

PBAC will NOT be providing smartphone lyres (known as “eFlip” devices) to participants, but you are welcome to bring your own if you have one. You can purchase eFlips at TonalInnovation.com.

Attire

Uniform

The expected attire for the day is:

  1. a “Pitt Band Alumni” polo in the current Pitt Royal color (first used in 2019),
  2. black pants or shorts without holes or tears, and
  3. dark-colored shoes.

A required participant wristband will also be issued at check-in. Golden Girls and colorguard will wear their designated outfit instead of the polo. The above uniform is expected to be the only Pitt Band Alumni apparel items that will be permitted on the field.

Weather adjustments

In the event of anticipated weather impacts that may warrant adjustments, these uniform rules may be somewhat relaxed at PBAC's discretion, which will be communicated to registrants closer to the event date as the forecast becomes clearer.

While not required, participants are also permitted to wear their own Pitt hat or ballcap in the current colors. You are also encouraged to wear underneath your uniform whatever other gear is comfortable for the weather and gets you into the Game Day spirit!

Polo details and availability

Registration for first-year graduates (last 12 months) includes a new “Pitt Band Alumni” cotton polo. For other participants, cotton “Pitt Band Alumni” polos may be brought from a previous year's Alumni Band Day, or ordered with your registration for $20.00. Sizes are first-come, first-served with distribution at the tailgate ONLY; no size reservations will be made.

Golf “Pitt Band Alumni” polos previously ordered from a PBAC webstore are also welcome, but must also be in the current Pitt Royal color (first used in 2019).

Note: All Alumni Band Day participants’ polos must be “Pitt Band Alumni” polos. Polos that say “Pitt Band” without the word “Alumni” or that are in the old colors will not be permitted.

10:50am Line up for Parade
11:00am “March to Victory” Parade into stadium
Location: Line up and step off from General Robinson St, west of Tony Dorsett Dr (near the truck)

🎟️ Important! The Alumni Band will enter the stadium with the Varsity Band directly from the end of the parade. As such, in order to enter the stadium with the bands, you MUST be wearing your full, proper Alumni Band Day attire and wristband, and MUST either:

  1. Participate in the parade and march into the stadium as part of the Alumni Band, or
  2. Meet the end of the parade at Gate 5, at the northeast corner of Acrisure Stadium, where the bands march in.

Otherwise, you will need to:

  1. Have your own ticket and meet the alumni inside the stadium.

Please be aware that, per stadium policy, all bags may be subject to random search upon entry into the stadium.

After entering the stadium, participants playing basses or drums will be directed to the tunnels to store their instruments during the first half. All other Alumni Band participants will be asked to take their instruments to their designated seats in the stadium. Our seating area is tentatively in Section 130 (near the Varsity Band); designated rows will be communicated by PBAC volunteers upon arrival.

12:00 noon Kickoff 🏈

All Alumni Band participants sitting in the designated seating area are invited to play along with the Varsity Band for fight songs and stand tunes as able and desired.

Halftime

Follow instructions from PBAC volunteers to retrieve any large instruments from the tunnels and head to field level at the end of the second quarter. We will join the Varsity Band on the field for a portion of their halftime performance and the Spirit of Pitt Award (formerly Homecoming Court).

All registered Pitt Band alumni participants will have the opportunity to be recognized at field level during the halftime performance without the obligation of marching or performing.

Third Quarter Truck reopens

Beginning in the third quarter, someone from PBAC will be manning the truck so that you can get cases or return borrowed instruments if you need to leave early. Note that there is no re-entry to Acrisure Stadium once you exit.

Postgame Refreshments

Please have all instruments returned and cases retrieved within 30 minutes of the conclusion of the game.

We plan to have light refreshments available following the conclusion of the game and continuing for approximately 45–60 minutes.

Policies

Photo Policy

Photos may be taken over the course of Alumni Band Day. Participants acknowledge that said photos may contain their image, and may be used in media published by the Pitt Band Alumni Council or for future promotion of events related to Pitt Band alumni.

Conduct Policy

By participating in Alumni Band Day, participants agree to proudly represent the University of Pittsburgh and the Pitt Band Alumni by exercising appropriate behavior, cooperating with all Pitt Band staff and PBAC volunteers, and adhering to Acrisure Stadium game day policies. Any failure to do so can jeopardize the future of this event, and may result in a participant's immediate dismissal from Alumni Band Day and/or future PBAC events.

Alcohol Policy

Due to PBAC utilizing an outside vendor to serve alcoholic beverages at this event, no outside alcohol is permitted at the PBAC tailgate. This is a zero tolerance policy. If you are caught with outside alcohol at the tailgate, you will be dismissed from the event and all participation in Alumni Band Day activities for the day, at minimum. No refunds will be given in the event of violations of this policy. This is to ensure the safety of all participants and the sustainability of this event.

While participants are permitted to consume alcohol offered for sale within the stadium during the game, we strongly encourage exercising moderation and expect full adherence to the Conduct Policy throughout the entire event.
