Each year, the Pitt Band Alumni Council is proud to be able to award three scholarships to current Pitt Band students. This includes two one-time book scholarships and our main award, a $1,000/year matching scholarship with the PAA. This great support is only made possible by the generous donations from you, our alumni. Please continue to give generously so that we can continue to support the Pitt Band and its students.
Scholarship WinnerThe 2011 winner of the $1000/year tuition scholarship was Darcy Mautino, and we recently checked in with her to see how she's doing. She graduated from Ringgold High School in Monongahela, PA in 2010. Music has been an essential part of her dancing and baton twirling careers, both of which have helped define her life since the age of two. Her mother and aunt were both baton twirlers and are both currently dance and baton teachers at Ruby Daugherty and Sherry's School of Dance in South Park, PA, home of the Modernettes Baton Twirling Corps. She twirled with the Modernettes from ages 8 to 18, and was a majorette all four years of high school. Twirling with the Modernettes allowed her to compete in ten national championships and two world championships. Pitt Band has only furthered her cherished twirling career and has introduced her to new people that she loves very much! Majoring in Commnications, the teamwork and leadership skills she has learned and continues to learn though Pitt Band will serve to expand her future.
Through your generous donations over the years, in 2010 we were proud to finally be able to establish a permanent scholarship endowment through the Pitt Alumni Association. This endowment's interest and future donations will help to fund scholarships for Pitt Band students for many years to come. However, the fund is still young and was only established at the $10,000 minimum. We would strongly encourage you to continue to support the Pitt Band scholarships so that we can continue to grow our endowment, grow our support of the Pitt Band, and grow our support of deserving Pitt Band students and support their academic success.
